I have lived in Great Bardfield since 1956 when I joined my father-in-law’s farming business.  My wife Ann and I are currently living at Littles Farm in Beslyns Road and have two children who started their schooling in the village primary school.  Our son Robert is a partner in the business and is now responsible for the day to day management of the farms.  Our daughter Julie is the Merchandise Director of a department store in Colchester.

My career in local council has been long, varied and for the most part very enjoyable.  I was elected to the Parish Council in 1971 and served as the Chairman for 15 years.  I went on to become Chairman of the Essex Association of Local Councils for 8 years and was then elected to the National Association in London for 11 years – 5 years of which was as National Chairman.  I have just been elected Vice President of that Association.

In the Parish Council I am currently involved in a variety of activities such as flood precautions, road safety, management of Pipers Meadow and assisting with the publication of the new footpath map.  I also represent the Council on the Bardfield Charities committee, the Braintree District Transport Board and the Braintree Association of Local Council (of which I am currently Chairman) and I still have a seat on the executive committee of the Essex Association.
