Our group ring the bells at St. Mary’s church every week. We are a self-organising group but co-operate with St. Mary’s in arranging ringing for services, weddings and special occasions. Our aim is to keep the tradition of church bell ringing alive whilst also having a bit of exercise (there is also a bit of mental and social stimulation thrown in!) We practise every Thursday evening (19:30 – 21:00) and welcome anyone of any faith or none to come and ring. You don’t need to be physically strong or musical to ring and we start teaching people from the age of 10yrs (some of us are still perfecting our skills at 60yrs plus!) There is no fee for tuition or attendance at a practice.
We ring before the main Sunday morning service (9:50 – 10:20). Whilst all ringers are welcome to attend the service there is no requirement to do so. Many non-churchgoing ringers regard their Sunday ringing as a "thank you" to the church for being able to ring the bells free of charge.
